Today we are going back to the not so distant past, with a visit to Yankee Stadium on August 25th, 2011, with the Yankees hosting the Oakland Athletics.
Speaking of the Yankees, can we first take a moment to talk about Aaron Judge today? Today, August 25th, 2024, Aaron Judge blasted his 50th and 51st home runs of the season, and he is now on pace for 63 home runs this year. The Yankees went on to beat the Rockies today, 10-3, thanks in part to Judge's two home runs.
So what happened 13 years ago in the Bronx when the Yankees played the A's in NY? Well, if you guessed that the Yankees hit three grand slams in the game, you'd be right!
Not only did the Yankees blast three grand slams in the game, but they were the first team in baseball history to accomplish the feat.
The grand slams came off the bats of Robinson Cano, Russel Martin, and Curtis Granderson while the Yankees went on to win the game 22-9.
The Yankees walked 11 times in the game, setting the stage for the record setting day.
And while we're here, lets turn the clock all the way back to 1922 when the Chicago Cubs hosted the Philadelphia Phillies where there were a combined 42 runs on 51 hits between the two clubs.
The Cubs would go on to win the game 26-23.
